Pediatric Neurosurgery

Hydrocephalus is the enlargement of the brain's main cavities due to increased fluid pressure. In newborns, it manifests as rapid head circumference growth, while in older individuals, it presents with symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, urinary incontinence, and loss of consciousness. Hydrocephalus can occur at any age, including in newborns.

Childhood brain tumors

Posterior fossa tumors are the most common tumors in childhood. Tumors can be similar to those seen in adults. While some tumors, such as pilocytic astrocytoma, can be benign, others, such as medulloblastoma, are highly malignant, and these are all diseases common in childhood.

Skull deformities

Skull deformities can occur alone, but sometimes they are part of other diseases, known as syndromic deformities. Since they are much more difficult to treat in later life, they should be treated in childhood whenever possible.

Arachnoid Cysts

Arachnoid cysts are childhood diseases. They can occur anywhere in the brain. Many do not cause symptoms in childhood, but gradually grow in later years and manifest themselves with headaches or other symptoms.

Head injuries are common in childhood.

Choroid plexus carcinoma – Childhood brain tumor

Choroid plexus papillomas and carcinomas are among the childhood brain tumors. They are rare. Complete removal of choroid plexus adenomas is the only treatment for the disease.

Craniopharyngiomas

Craniopharyngiomas can occur in childhood or adulthood. In childhood, the adamantinamatous type is most common, while in adulthood, the papillary type is the most common.
